Lincat to focus on school catering at the LACA Conference Exhibition

Lincat Ltd, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of commercial catering equipment, will be talking to school caterers about the equipment it has developed specifically to meet their needs, at the Local Authority Caterers Association Conference from the 7th to the 9th July 2010 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Stand No: P19.

This range comprises Lincat’s popular LMR 9 six burner range, together with single and twin general purpose ovens and a choice of gas or electric high capacity atmospheric steamers. Each item is designed to appeal to the school caterer who prefers to cook in a traditional way.

“Atmospheric steamers, powerful, general purpose ovens and six burner ranges are still popular in large kitchens, and especially so in education or healthcare settings”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “The attraction is obvious for those who prefer to cook using tried and tested methods. Easy to use and reliable, they’re capable of large outputs and represent excellent value for money.”

He continued…

“Atmospheric steamers are also popular because they’re able to deliver real health and cost saving benefits. Vegetables, rice, ham, fish and puddings all retain their nutritional value and colour when steamed, and reduced shrinkage results in cost savings on raw products.”

Lincat’s atmospheric steamers are strongly built and feature internal steam generation. This ensures that the ovens remain fully saturated with steam to guarantee high quality food production. Energy efficiency is enhanced by the positive two-point door latch mechanism and effective door seal. All components and materials are WRAS approved to ensure quality and hygiene.

As with all Lincat equipment, the popular LMR9 six burner range, LM09 single oven and LMD9 double oven offer outstanding performance and value for money. Of robust and sturdy stainless steel construction, they are easy to clean and designed to meet the needs of the busiest school kitchen.

The Lincat team will also be talking to LACA delegates about the clear and rising trend it has identified of school kitchens investing in state of the art combi steamers such as the Lincat Opus SelfCooking Centre. In particular they’ll be sharing the experiences of schools they have worked with who, having never offered freshly prepared meals on site, have found that they can, using a relatively small combi such as the Lincat 10-grid OSC101, produce high quality, healthy school meals with ease.

Lincat invests more than £500,000 in state of the art laser cutting equipment

Lincat Ltd, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of commercial catering equipment, has invested more than £500,000 in a Bystronic Byspeed 3015 laser cutting machine.

The high-tech equipment has been installed at Lincat’s Lincoln-based factory and will be used to cut steel components for the company’s range of over 450 separate items of commercial catering equipment, including fryers, ovens, grills and griddles.

“Our new laser cutting machine offers several important manufacturing advantages over the traditional punch press machinery it replaces”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd.

“It’s quicker, more accurate and can run, virtually unattended, 24 hours per day, which will enable us to increase production. It can also cut right up to the edge of the steel, which we believe will result in a significant saving on raw materials.

He continued…

“Since the laser cuts with a beam of light, rather than a physical tool, we’ll also be saving on tools and servicing. The fact that we won’t need to invest in new cutting tools each time we want to try something new, will be a huge advantage to our team of new product design engineers.”

He concluded…

“After a tough year in 2009, we’re now beginning to see a recovery in sales and this investment demonstrates our confidence in the future of our business. It also underlines our commitment to British manufacturing. Whilst others have decided to compete by importing cheap products, we’ve chosen to invest in manufacturing efficiency. This will enable us to continue to meet the demand for high quality, British made equipment.”

Lincat Ltd manufactures one of the world’s most comprehensive ranges of catering equipment. Products are sold throughout the UK and in over 50 countries overseas through a network of international distributors. Lincat Ltd, together with its sister companies IMC Ltd and Britannia Kitchen Ventilation, form the Lincat Group plc.
Lincat adds larger pizza oven to range

Lincat, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment, has introduced a new, larger pizza oven - the PO69X. Able to accommodate six 9” pizzas or two 14” pizzas on its fire brick base, the new PO69X produces crisp, even results every time. Operating from a standard 13 amp supply, it offers convenience and reliability together with stylish good looks.

“Perfect for deep pan, thin crust, fresh dough, part baked or frozen pizzas, the PO69X is also useful for a variety of breads such as ciabatta and naan”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “This compact and stylish pizza oven offers superb value for money and will meet the needs of the most demanding commercial catering environment.”

The PO69X features separate heat controls for the top and base of the oven compartment, together with precise thermostatic control to ensure flexibility and perfect results. The oven offers rapid heat up to a maximum temperature of 400 degrees C, and a 20-minute audible timer. It is robustly built from hygienic stainless steel, with fully insulated doors which contribute to energy efficiency and safe operation. The PO69X can be used either as a counter top unit or with an optional floor stand.

In addition to the PO69X Lincat offers three other pizza ovens. The PO49X pizza oven will cook 4 x 9” or 2 x 12” pizzas at a time and the twin deck PO89X offers double this capacity. For smaller establishments the LPO model has the capacity to cook either 2 x 9”, 4 x 7” or 1 x 14” pizzas.
Lincat win Excellence Award for innovative FilterFlow water boiler

Lincoln business Lincat Ltd, one of world’s leading manufacturers of commercial catering equipment, has received a Caterer and Hotelkeeper ‘Excellence Award’ for its innovative FilterFlow automatic-fill water boiler, with unique built-in filtration. The award was presented to Nick McDonald, Lincat’s Marketing Director, at a prestigious awards ceremony in London, organised by the catering industry’s leading magazine, Caterer and Hotelkeeper, to celebrate ‘innovation and excellence’ in the hospitality industry.

Nick McDonald said…

“Combining pioneering technology with value for money, FilterFlow’s unique built-in filtration unit ensures premium water quality every time, resulting in great tasting tea! At the same time the filtration system prevents damaging scale build up which can seriously compromise performance of over time. With a conventional boiler it is necessary to plumb a separate filter upstream of the unit. However this can be unattractive and it certainly adds to the cost. So by eliminating the need for a separate filtration unit, our new ‘FilterFlow’ system is also convenient, reliable and cost effective.”

“The Caterer and Hotelkeeper’s ‘Excellence Awards’ are the most sought after in our sector, so it’s good that FilterFlow has been recognised in this way. It’s also satisfying to have won such an important category since every caterer needs a water boiler, from the smallest café or shop to the largest, institutional kitchen. To win an Excellence Award for FilterFlow is therefore of real commercial value. It’s excellent news for Lincat and a real feather in the cap for British design and manufacturing.”

In addition to water boilers, Lincat supplies over 450 products including: fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers as well as hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers, almost all of which are manufactured at the company’s factory in Lincoln. Lincat Ltd, together with its sister companies IMC Ltd and Britannia Kitchen Ventilation, form the Lincat Group plc.

Lincat Opus Combi Steamers revolutionise cooking at Tollbar College, Grimsby

With over 2000 pupils to provide for on a daily basis, caterers at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, in Grimsby, were looking for something special when it came to replacing their ovens.

Their decision to invest in Lincat Opus SelfCooking Centers has revolutionised their kitchen and allowed them to branch out into banquets and conferences at the college’s Business Centre.

Tollbar’s Catering Manager, Mandy Davidson, was introduced to the Opus SelfCooking Center by Lincat catering equipment dealer CRS, who invited her to attend a live cooking workshop at the Lincat factory prior to purchasing any equipment.

She was impressed by the SelfCooking Centers’ technology, which enables the user simply to select the food and how they want it cooked, with the SelfCooking Center taking care of the rest. Perfect for roasting, baking, poaching, grilling or pan frying, it was clear that it would meet all of the school’s requirements. In would also enable them to offer catering support to the school’s newly emerging conference business.

Mandy said:

“When CRS invited me along to the hands on workshop I had no idea what even a basic combi-steamer could do. I quickly discovered that you don’t have to be an expert cook to get the most out of a Lincat Opus SelfCooking Centre. You can even cook different items at the same time, since each rack is equipped with an individual timer.”

She was also attracted to the SelfCooking Center’s ability to do the job of several different pieces of cooking equipment and clean itself at the end of the shift!

“I could see immediately that it would allow us to cook a wide range of foods, which would come out to the same high standard every time. The workshop was very valuable and certainly influenced our decision to buy. I was so impressed that we initially purchased a 20-grid and three 10-grid models followed later by the 40-grid machine.

As a result the kitchen is now equipped with five Opus SelfCooking Centers and an Opus 700 boiling top.

Mandy explains…

“We can produce everything we need using just our combis and a boiling top. The combis are so versatile and enable us to cook in advance. We can therefore set our meat to cook overnight and it will be ready the following day, succulent and perfectly cooked. This morning I cooked 65 puddings, and every single one was fantastic. The consistency is a major benefit.”

She added…

“They have also enabled us to extend our catering service, so that now we can provide meals for special events and even for banquets in our newly-refurbished function suite. We could not have done so without the SelfCooking Centers. We know that our food will always be of a consistently high-standard which is enabling us to build on our reputation. They really do take the stress out of mass catering and they ensure that our standard of food is consistently high, no matter who is cooking it. We cannot sing Lincat’s praises highly enough for providing us with such dynamic equipment.”

Mandy also appreciates the fact that Lincat SelfCooking Centers clean themselves. The four 10-grid models are equipped with CleanJet, whilst the new 40-grid model is equipped with CareControl. This is a new system, which eliminates the need for costly separate water softeners and manages its own cleaning and care processes. It is designed to ensure that Opus SelfCooking Centers are maintained, at all times, in perfect operational condition.

“Our first combis are now two years old and they still look brand new,” said Mandy.

Lincat’s Development Chef, Paul Hickman, together with his team of Application Chefs, is responsible for supporting new Lincat SelfCooking Center users wherever they are. They provide an onsite training session free of charge with every new Lincat SelfCooking Center. Paul said:

“It’s a pleasure to be able to work one to one with new customers to ensure that they are able to make the most of their new investment as quickly as possible. Our training is hands on and covers every aspect of combi cooking, HACCP retrieval, cleaning and maintenance. We also help customers to recreate their favourite dishes in the SelfCooking Center. The resulting cooking processes can then be stored in the combi’s memory in order that they can be recreated, to the same high quality, time after time.”

Lincat’s range of Opus Combi Steamers utilises the very latest advances in combi steaming technology to bring a host of powerful benefits into the busy commercial kitchen. There are 12 Opus SelfCooking Centers in the range, with a choice of gas or electric models. Each Opus Combi Steamer is supplied with the added benefit of a full two-year on site parts and labour warranty.

Westminster school uses Lincat equipment for its training kitchen

St Augustine’s CofE Primary School in Kilburn, Westminster, has installed a brand new training kitchen for pupils using Lincat’s market leading Silverlink 600 range of prime cooking equipment. The kitchen has been fitted with six workstations at differing heights (720mm and 850mm) to accommodate the age range of the children, to enable them to cook safely. Each workstation incorporates an HT3 two-plate boiling top and a V6/FD fan-assisted glass door oven. Preparation tables, sinks and wash hand basins at corresponding heights complete the new kitchen layout.

St Augustine’s is a successful primary school with 210 pupils, aged five to eleven years, and a part-time Nursery for 50 children between three and five years. The promotion of healthy eating for pupils and parents is an important part of the school’s education programme, and many children have taken advantage of the school’s Cooking Club to learn how to make healthy meals for themselves.

Suzanne Parry, Head teacher at St Augustine’s, chose Lincat after consulting John Merrifield of Lincat distributors ES Catering Equipment whose company already has a good business relationship with Westminster City Council, having worked on similar projects on their behalf.

She explains:

“Our cookery classes were previously held in a room that was unsuitable because it was filled with domestic equipment that was too high for a lot of our pupils. Some were unable to reach the cookers safely, which meant they were unable to cook for themselves.

“We still needed to have some taller equipment in there because of the age range of the pupils using it and also because we sometimes offer classes for parents, but we also needed to accommodate our youngest children. ES catering talked it through with us and came up with a design for the room using equipment at various heights.

“In addition, we wanted to get across the importance of hygiene by keeping our cookery sinks separate from the wash basins, so that the pupils learned to wash their hands in a separate place.”

Early feedback from the school is very good. The kitchen is about to go into use.

“Our first impression is brilliant. The Lincat equipment seems very hard wearing, which is paramount in a school environment. It is easy to clean, with plenty of storage solutions, and the different height workstations are perfect to accommodate all our pupils.

“The glass front ovens mean the pupils can see their food cooking, which is also very helpful.

Lincat launch new and improved Opus 700 gas oven ranges

Lincat has redesigned its two Opus 700 gas oven ranges, the four burner OG7001 and six burner OG7002. The new models feature more powerful hob burners, stronger construction and easier to clean stainless steel radiused hob fronts.

The new hob burners deliver a higher power rating of 6.1 kW for natural gas and 5.7 kW for propane. This performance places them at the top of their class in terms of burner power, and enables them to deliver true high speed cooking. They can, nevertheless, be accurately controlled to ensure excellent results even at low temperatures.

The new models feature powerful 6.8kW (OG7001) and 9kW (OG7002) ovens, which deliver precise thermostatic control from 120oC to 280oC. With double insulated doors, side and back panels, they offer safe operation, efficiency and economy.

“Our robust and durable Opus 700 gas oven ranges are designed to meet the needs of the busiest commercial kitchen”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “Delivering fast, controllable power with a stylish and easy to clean design, they offer performance, reliability and safe operation.”

Like all Lincat products, the new ranges are designed to be easy to clean, with removable floor plates and shelf supports; dished hob tops; vitreous enamelled oven liners and robust matt-enamelled cast iron pan supports. Side opening doors ensure safe easy access, whilst four shelf positions offer greater versatility. A low level flue enables the entire hob top to be used and, if the ranges are to be installed with other items of Opus 700 equipment, an optional flue extension can be specified to achieve a uniform appearance.

In addition to the four and six burner gas ranges, the heavy-duty Opus 700 series includes six other oven ranges with solid top gas models, as well as electric and dual fuel options. The Opus 700 series also includes: fryers, chargrills, griddles and grills as well as pasta boilers and atmospheric steamers. Lincat Ltd is part of the Lincat Group of companies.

Professional tea taster raises a cuppa to Lincat’s FilterFlow water boilers

Professional tea taster Ben Poole has searched the world for some of the finest teas ever grown and many of these are sold at his own tea emporium, Imperial Teas of Lincoln. Yet even Ben has yet to master the age old problem of finding a cup of tea in a hotel or café that has been served at the right water temperature – that is, until now.

After 18 years of selling the finest teas on the market, he has finally discovered a water boiler that has a built-in filtration system, and best of all, a variable temperature control.

Manufacturer Lincat invited Ben to test its innovative range of ‘FilterFlow’ automatic water boilers, with convenient and cost effective built-in water filtration, at his Lincoln premises. Designed to provide a continuous supply of high-quality, filtered water to improve the taste and quality of hot beverages, they are ideal for all catering establishments.

Ben installed two EB3F water boilers at the beginning of the year, which he retains at different temperatures for different types of tea.

His findings, he says, have been extraordinary.

“It is important to understand that the key ingredient for a really good cup of tea is freshly filtered water, which is free from taint and odour and heated to the correct temperature.

“Even with the finest teas in the world at your disposal, a good cup of tea can be ruined by the water, either its temperature, or its taste, or both. Until now it has always frustrated me that even when I visit a top hotel I cannot get a good cup of tea that is served at the right temperature.

“So when Lincat asked me to try these new boilers I didn’t expect very much, but I was wrong. The temperature control means that I can have one water boiler set to 70 degrees for green teas, and one at close to boiling for black teas. It makes my tea tasting so much easier and undoubtedly brings out the very best in the tea leaves.”

Ben continued:

“These boilers are absolutely perfect for any catering establishment where hot drinks of any kind are on offer, but even more so for tea, which really relies on good tasting water. Often with water boilers there is a nasty taste, but with the EB3F’s built-in filtration system the water is at its finest. This has meant that I can do away with my kettle for tea tasting altogether.

“The water boilers are also very good to look at, made from polished stainless steel with an LCD panel. I would recommend them to any business that is serving hot drinks, and they cost no more than a traditional boiler.”

There are four FilterFlow models in the Lincat range, and each features comprehensive onboard diagnostics with an easy to read LCD panel. This shows the operational status of the boiler and reminds users when to order a new filter and when exactly to change it. The filter cartridge is as easy to change as a light bulb, with no need to disconnect the water supply or seek the help of a service engineer or plumber.

Lincat Ltd is part of the Lincat Group of companies. Sister companies IMC Ltd and Britannia Kitchen Ventilation Ltd operate in the commercial catering equipment sector. Lincat Group company Mercury Appliances Ltd designs and manufactures domestic cooking appliances.
Lincat ovens now available in stand alone specification

Following its starring role in the recent series of "Hairy Bakers", Lincat’s V series of Silverlink 600 electric ovens can now be specified with an optional top and stand to allow them to be used as stand-alone models.

When the Hairy Bakers’ production team approached Lincat last year to ask if a modification could be made to the V series, Lincat was pleased to oblige. The V6/F oven met their performance needs exactly, but they wanted to use it as a stand alone unit.

Since the ovens had been originally been designed to work as part of a suite of modular Silverlink 600 equipment, carrying a suitably sized griddle, boiling top or bain marie unit, a new top and stand would be needed. Lincat’s team of design engineers set to to produce the necessary components and these are now available as standard accessories.

“Because we design and manufacture catering equipment here in the UK, we were able to respond quickly to this request”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “We were so pleased with the results that we decided to make them available as standard accessories. And it was good to see Lincat equipment being used once again on national TV.”

There are six powerful 3kW and 4kW V series ovens to choose from, including fan assisted models. Their plain or glass fronted doors are side opening, with robust hinges and ball catch, to give safe, easy access. Each oven features a vitreous enamelled interior with radiused corners and removable side shelf for easy cleaning. All models offer four shelf positions and are supplied with two chromed rod shelves supplied as standard.

Silverlink 600 offers well-built equipment which combines flexibility and high levels of performance with style and value for money. The range includes products for both counter-top and free-standing use. All units are 600mm in depth to make optimum use of available kitchen space. Width sizes vary from a compact 300mm to as much as 900mm, depending on the product type.

Half a million reasons to buy Lincat equipment

In this difficult economic climate the ability to repair, rather than replace, catering equipment assumes ever greater importance. As a result, the prompt availability of spare parts becomes critical, according to Lincat Ltd, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment.

Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd, explains:

“Whilst all Lincat products are designed and built to give trouble-free service, components do sometimes fail. If you need a replacement thermostat, seal or control switch, the chances are you will need it quickly. We are able to meet that requirement because we manufacture new equipment here in the UK, and maintain a stockholding of more than half a million components to support that production. Access to this resource enables us to supply replacement parts within 2 to 3 days.”

He continued…

“We hold spares for all current equipment as well models that went out of production up to five years ago. We have even been known to supply a spare part for a piece of equipment that was 15-years-old! So when you buy catering equipment from Lincat you can be assured of a high-level of after-sales service, which an obscure or imported brand is unlikely to be able to match. And if you have a particularly urgent requirement, you can telephone our Spare Parts Sales Department for details of our express delivery services.”

There are 3,500 items in the Lincat Spare Parts Price List, including components for: fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers, as well as for beverage equipment, hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers.

Debenhams specify Lincat FilterFlow water boilers

When it came to choosing new water boilers for their in-store catering operations, Debenhams didn’t hesitate in specifying Lincat’s new FilterFlow range of automatic fill water boilers. With innovative in-built filtration, these stylish new boilers provide a continuous supply of high quality, hot filtered water to improve the taste and quality of hot beverages.

They are also easy to use and inexpensive to maintain which, for Melanie Oliver, Brand Equipment Manager at Debenhams, were key considerations. She said…

“With Lincat FilterFlow water boilers we don’t have to register and then wait for a replacement filter to be installed. Instead, our own operators can change the filter with no more difficulty than changing a light bulb. The replacement filters represent excellent value for money, and we don’t need to pay a plumber to fit them.”

She added:

“FilterFlow water boilers are also aesthetically pleasing which is important for our front of house operations. In addition they are space saving in that they don’t need a separate, bulky filtration system. Both were key factors in our decision to buy.

“Debenhams has over 150 stores across the UK, most of which have food outlets. This contract therefore represents a powerful and high profile endorsement of our new FilterFlow range.”

Buying British makes more sense than ever claims Lincat

Lincat Ltd, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment, claims that there has never been a better time to buy British. This is due, Lincat believes, to a number of different factors.

“To start with the weak pound is making imported equipment much more expensive to buy”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “However it’s certainly not just an issue of cost. British designed and manufactured equipment is ideal for British applications.”

He continued…

“For example large British ovens, with side opening doors, are perfect for the traditional roast. European manufacturers in contrast tend to stick to shallow ovens with drop down doors. Side opening doors make it easy to reach into our large, deep ovens, maintaining a safe, straight-backed posture, to remove heavy, hot dishes. They also avoid the serious tripping hazard of a drop down door left open.

In addition British kitchens are often limited in terms of size, with the result that a British built 6-burner range, which is typically 900mm wide fits perfectly, whereas an imported model, which is typically larger, does not. Lincat’s comprehensive Opus 700 heavy duty range of prime cooking equipment has for example, undergone rigorous product trials, and been selected by national pub chains including Punch and Spirit for use throughout their estates.”

Lincat has also noticed that many organisations and, larger ones in particular, are keen to buy British out of concern for the environment. Policies to reduce the carbon footprint of larger organisations are beginning to reach the kitchen. Buying British and thereby reducing ‘equipment’ miles is becoming more important.

Last but by no means least, Lincat believes that operators are choosing British made equipment thanks to the excellent sales, spare parts and after sales service which can be provided by a manufacturer which is based here in the UK.

Overall there are more than 450 products in the Lincat range including: fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers as well as beverage equipment, hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers, almost all of which are manufactured at the company’s factory in Lincoln. Excellent customer service is provided through Lincat’s extensive national and international dealer network.

Lincat Ltd is part of the Lincat Group of companies. Sister companies IMC Ltd and Britannia Kitchen Ventilation Ltd operate in the commercial catering equipment sector. Lincat Group company Mercury Appliances Ltd designs and manufactures domestic cooking appliances.

Lincat’s new filtration fryer is a variant of the popular Opus 700 electric
twin tank (2x7 kW) model, the OE7105. Its introduction follows the successful
launch earlier in the year of Lincat’s first Opus 700 filtration fryers: the
single tank 22 kW OE7108/F and the twin tank 2x12 kW OE7113/F. These are priced
at £3845 and £3965 respectively.

Simple to operate, the new filtration system drains the oil from the tank
through the primary filter to remove the largest particles and cooking debris.
At the push of a button, the oil is then pumped through a premium carbon pad
filter which can remove particles as fine as 0.5 microns (0.0005mm), before
being pumped back into the tank ready for use. The whole process takes between
four and six minutes for a full tank of oil.

“Cooking oil lasts longer if it is filtered on a daily basis”, said Nick
McDonald, Marketing and Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “However if done
manually this can be an unpleasant and even hazardous operation. Potential
risks arise from the manual handling of oil, including lifting injuries,
burning and slipping. Our Opus 700 fryers, with built in oil filtration,
tackle these problems head on.”

He continued…

“The filtration system is supremely easy to use and, in terms of savings on
oil, can pay for itself in as little as ten months. But these fryers don’t just
save money – they produce better tasting, healthier food thanks to their well
filtered oil. As a result they are already proving to be popular additions to
the Opus 700 range. The launch of the OE7105/F means that we can now offer a
heavy duty filtration fryer to suit the majority of applications.”

Altogether there are eleven fryers in the Opus 700 range. The electric
models feature hinged ‘lift-and-park’ elements and the gas models are
externally fired. Both of these designs allow unobstructed access to the fryer
tanks for ease of cleaning. The tanks have inclined bases and large bore drain
valves to aid draining. As with all products in the Lincat Opus 700 range, the
new fryers are supplied with a two-year parts and labour warranty as standard.

Overall there are more than 450 products in the Lincat range including:
fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers as well as beverage
equipment, hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers. Excellent

Lincat launch new generation of Opus SelfCooking Centers

Lincat Ltd, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment, has launched a new generation of Opus SelfCooking Centers. The new Opus SelfCooking Centers are equipped with CareControl, a unique system which eliminates the need for costly separate water softeners and manages its own cleaning and care processes. It is designed to ensure that Opus SelfCooking Centers are maintained, at all times, in perfect operational condition.

Launched in 2004, Lincat’s Opus SelfCooking Centers brought powerful ‘smart’ touch screen technology to cooking. This enables operators, whether roasting, baking, poaching, grilling or pan frying, to simply select the type of food to be cooked and the desired outcome. The Opus SelfCooking Center does the rest, even cleaning itself at the end of the shift using groundbreaking CleanJet+care technology.

Now, the new CareControl system will work out when and how deeply the SelfCooking Center needs to be cleaned, saving time and minimising the use of energy and detergents. CleanJet detergent tablets will be used as before, but there will no longer be a need for separate rinse aid tablets. Instead care tablets, containing agents which inhibit lime scale build up, will eliminate the need for a separate water softener. CalcDiagnosis, the system which alerts the user as and when to descale, will operate as before.

“The addition of CareControl will help users to ensure that their Opus SelfCooking Centers are maintained at all times in optimum working order”, said Paul Hickman, Lincat’s Development Chef. “In addition it will help to reduce energy consumption and minimise the use of cleaning detergents, cutting costs and benefiting the environment. The new models will be offered at the same price as those they replace and will be supplied with an extended two-year parts and labour warranty as standard.”

Opus SelfCooking Centers are available in six sizes, offering capacities to suit the needs of any commercial kitchen. All sizes are available for operation on gas or electricity. Prices range from the OSC61 (6 x 1/1 GN) electric model at £7303 to the OSC202 G (20 x 2/1 GN) gas version at £27531.

“The message of Lincat’s Guide to World Teas is clear, great tasting tea can be sold at a premium and a good hot drinks offer will drive food sales”, said McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd. “It’s clear too that the most important ingredient for a really good cup of tea is freshly filtered water, which is free from taint and odour and brewed at the correct temperature. Our new range of FilterFlow water boilers, with in-built water filtration and adjustable temperature control, has been developed to deliver just that.”

He continued…

“However, our new FilterFlow boilers don’t simply deliver great tasting water. Their in-built filtration system prevents damaging scale build up which can seriously compromise performance of over time. With a conventional boiler it is necessary to plumb a separate filter upstream of the unit. However this can be unattractive and it certainly adds to the cost. So by eliminating the need for a separate filtration unit, our new ‘FilterFlow’ system is also convenient, reliable and cost effective.”

There are four new FilterFlow models in the range which have replaced Lincat’s existing range of automatic water boilers. Each new boiler features comprehensive onboard diagnostics with an easy to read LCD panel. This shows the operational status of the boiler and reminds users when to order a new filter and when exactly to change it. The filter cartridge is as easy to change as a light bulb, with no need to disconnect the water supply or seek the help of a service engineer or plumber.

Lincat strives to provide exceptional value for money by offering, where possible, enhanced products at the same price as the models they replace. This has been achieved with the new FilterFlow automatic water boilers which are priced at: £434 for the EB3F, £514 for the EB4F, £560 for the EB6F and £607 for the EB6FT.

Lincat launches ‘FilterFlow’ automatic water boilers with built-in filtration

Lincat has launched an innovative range of ‘FilterFlow’ automatic water boilers, with convenient and cost effective built-in water filtration. Designed to reduce damaging scale build up and provide a continuous supply of high quality, filtered water to improve the taste and quality of hot beverages, these stylish new boilers are available from Lincat distributors.

“A water filter is recommended with all water boilers and not simply because filtered water makes better tea! The build up of scale can seriously compromise the performance of water boilers over time, making them more expensive to run and prone to breakdowns”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat Ltd.

“That’s why with a conventional boiler it is necessary to plumb a separate filter upstream of the unit. However this can be unattractive and it certainly adds to the cost. So by eliminating the need for a separate filtration unit, our new ‘FilterFlow’ system will ensure that water is always, automatically, of the highest quality. We believe that this development sets a new standard for water boiler design.”
He added…

“A number of our new boilers are already out in the field, being tested by catering establishments of different types and sizes. I’m pleased to say that their initial feedback is excellent, with encouraging reports of better tasting tea and coffee. Customers are also pleased with their sleek new styling and by the fact that they can now promote the fact that their drinks are made with filtered water.”

There are four new FilterFlow models in the range which will replace Lincat’s existing range of water boilers. Each new boiler features comprehensive onboard diagnostics with an easy to read LCD panel. This shows the operational status of the boiler and reminds users when to order a new filter and when exactly to change it.
Spirit Group choose Lincat Opus 700 for high volume catering applications

Spirit Group, one of the UK’s largest pub operators, has specified Lincat’s Opus 700 heavy duty equipment as part of its new kitchen template for the group’s high volume, Two For One concept. Opus 700 has earned its place in the template having proven its power, flexibility and reliability in pubs throughout the Spirit estate for the past five years.

The new templates have been developed by Nick Brassett, Spirit’s Catering Equipment and Operations Manager. He has been tasked with improving the way kitchens work by using the best equipment to enhance speed of service, facilitate volume management and deliver the best quality food faster. The equipment specifications for Two For One pubs, which typically produce between 2000 and 3000 freshly prepared meals per week, are rigorous.

“We need catering equipment which is powerful, reliable and flexible”, said Nick Brassett. “We’ve used Lincat Opus 700 for over five years and we know it’s equal to the task. We have worked this equipment hard and it has not let us down. We are particularly impressed with the Opus 700 griddles which, in our opinion, are more powerful than others on the market.”

He continued…

“Lincat have listened carefully to our feedback over the years, and have incorporated our suggestions for adaptation and improvement. They have even developed entirely new products at our request. After sales support is excellent and since Lincat is a UK manufacturer we have no concerns with regard to spare parts availability.”

One of Sprit’s latest Two For One investments is the Manor Farm at Old Denaby, South Yorkshire. The kitchen is equipped with a range of Lincat Opus 700 gas powered equipment including: boiling tops, a pasta boiler and two chrome griddles. Over half of the meals served on Friday and Saturday evenings are produced on two 700mm chrome griddles. The kitchen team is typically five strong at the weekend, led by Kitchen Manager Darren Lines and Head Chef Matt Wilson. They described Opus 700 as ‘very good equipment – easy to use, effective and powerful’. They also find it easy to clean.

The on-going performance of Lincat Opus 700 equipment throughout the Spirit estate is monitored closely by the chefs that are using it, and by the company’s investment trainers who work with the kitchen teams to ensure quality and consistency of all output. Their work is monitored by objective, external assessors and feedback from customers is always taken into consideration.
Lincat launch high output, compact conveyor toaster

Lincat Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer of commercial catering equipment, has launched a high output, conveyor toaster. Capable of producing up to 340 slices of toast per hour by accommodating two slices of bread, side-by-side, the CT1 is designed to meet the needs of the busiest commercial kitchen or self-service breakfast buffet. It is also ideal for producing large volumes of other toasted products such as crumpets, muffins, burger buns, teacakes, and bagels.

The conveyor speed of the CT1 and the heat of both the upper and lower elements can be adjusted to ensure even and accurate toasting, whatever the product. It also offers a one-sided toasting function which is ideal for teacakes or burger buns. It operates from a standard 13 amp supply and requires no special installation. As with all Lincat equipment its performance and output figures are verified by Lincat Development Chef, Paul Hickman. Paul’s accurate performance statistics even include details of output possible for different degrees of browning. The CT1 is priced at £699.

“As with all Lincat products, the CT1 is manufactured from high quality, robust components to guarantee long, trouble-free service”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing and Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “Safety is also a key requirement for every Lincat product and we have equipped the CT1 with an internal cooling fan and effective insulation to ensure that its exterior panels remain relatively cool. This is particularly important for a piece of equipment which is likely to be used in a public space.”

In addition to the CT1, Lincat offers two slot toasters: the LT4X four slot model priced at £153, and the LT6X six slot at £189. Manufactured from mirrored stainless steel and designed with stylish curves and a contemporary, minimalist feel, they too are ideal for front of house operation and provide the performance required by modern busy catering establishments.

Overall there are more than 450 products in the Lincat range including: fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers as well as beverage equipment, hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers.
Punch Taverns recommend Lincat Opus 700 heavy duty equipment

Punch Taverns plc, the country’s largest pub owner, which currently manages or leases over 8,400 pubs throughout the UK, now recommends Lincat’s Opus 700 range of heavy duty prime cooking equipment for use throughout its estate. The move follows an extensive programme of rigorous testing of the equipment in Punch Taverns’ development kitchen, followed by extensive trials in several of the group’s busiest pubs.

Alan Todd, Punch Taverns’ Catering Development Manager, explains:

“Our relationship with Lincat extends over several years, initially through our managed house business within Spirit Group. Having satisfied ourselves as to the quality and reliability of Lincat’s range, we had no hesitation in recommending the brand throughout our tenanted estate. Within Punch Taverns we have demanding catering requirements, calling for equipment which is robust, reliable and easy to use. We therefore decided to test various makes of equipment both in our development kitchen as well as in several of our pubs, selected for the demanding, high volume nature of their business. Due to our recent expansion and an even greater emphasis on catering following the smoking ban, it was important to have a catering equipment supplier who could cope with our growth and supply quality, robust equipment, able to withstand the demands of a busy commercial kitchen. Lincat ticked all these boxes with Opus 700. Our chefs concluded that the equipment is ‘well thought out in design and a robust, solid piece of kit’.”

He continued…

“Lincat’s modular production set up means that they are flexible and can respond quickly to changes in demand, and we have been impressed with after sales service. They were also prepared to act on our feedback, for example by developing a more powerful rise and fall grill which offers our chefs the versatility and responsiveness they needed in a busy kitchen. As a result we now have a strong relationship with Lincat and we are recommending their equipment with confidence to our tenants.”

Designed to cope with the demands of a busy professional kitchen, Opus 700 products are sturdily built and provide the power and flexibility needed to maximise available space when planning a new installation. The Opus 700 range offers a wide choice of appliances, in either gas, electric or dual fuel, all providing easy-to-clean qualities to help maintain high health standards in the kitchen.

Punch Taverns’ team of eight catering support people gives help and advice to tenants when requested. The advice is designed to help either new tenants, or those who are thinking of investing in order to increase their turnover and profitability. Due to its breadth and flexibility, Lincat’s product range is capable of meeting every tenant requirement from the establishment providing an extensive food offering to the pub providing a more limited menu, such as bar snacks.

Alan Todd concludes…

“Our aim is to work with our retailers to help them build better businesses. So we’re increasingly using the knowledge we’ve gained from our managed operation to help tenants looking for help to improve the profitability of their food offer. In addition to offering day to day advice, we can also help by identifying potential new opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency. Our partnership with Lincat supports these objectives.”

Lincat’s range of Opus 700 equipment comprises: bains marie, boiling tops, chargrills, chip scuttles, fryers, griddles, oven ranges, pasta boilers, salamander grills and worktops. Each piece of Opus 700 equipment benefits from a comprehensive two-year warranty and this is backed up by a nationwide network of service engineers.
Lincat introduces two new convection ovens.

Lincat, the leading British manufacturer of commercial catering equipment for cooking, holding and display, has unveiled two powerful new convection ovens. Ideal for roasts, pizzas, pies and bakery products, the ECO8 and ECO9 are versatile and built to last.

Of sturdy, heavy-duty stainless steel construction, these powerful new ovens offer exceptionally even heat distribution. Both can substantially reduce cooking times thanks to their efficient twin-fan air circulation systems.

“The ECO8 is a convenient plug in unit which is ideal for a wide variety of establishments, even relatively small cafés”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing and Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “The ECO9 is larger and more powerful and may be used more as a specialist oven specifically for baking off chilled or frozen convenience bakery products such as baguettes and croissants.”

The new ECO8 is priced at £1,360, the ECO9 at £2,150. Both models can be installed on a countertop or on an optional floor stand. Where additional output is needed from limited floor space, both models can be stacked using a stacking kit and low-level stand.

Lincat adds atmospheric steamers to Opus 700 range

Lincat, the leading British manufacturer of commercial catering equipment for cooking, holding and display, has added two atmospheric steamers to its heavy duty Opus 700 range of prime cooking equipment.

Lincat, the leading British manufacturer of commercial catering equipment for cooking, holding and display, has added two atmospheric steamers to its heavy duty Opus 700 range of prime cooking equipment. Simple to use and with a generous capacity, Lincat’s new Opus 700 atmospheric steamers offer the perfect solution for the volume production of healthy steamed food.

Robustly built, these six shelf atmospheric steamers, one gas and one electric, can accommodate 2 x 1/1 GN containers per shelf. Internal steam generation ensures that the ovens remain fully saturated with steam to guarantee high quality food production, and energy efficiency is enhanced by the positive two-point door latch mechanism and effective door seal. All components and materials are WRAS approved to ensure quality and hygiene.

“Atmospheric steamers are popular in large kitchens, especially so in education or healthcare settings, and it’s clear to see why”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing & Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “Easy to use and versatile, they are capable of delivering substantial nutritional and cost saving benefits. Vegetables, rice, ham, fish and puddings all retain their nutritional value and colour when steamed, and reduced shrinkage results in cost savings on raw products. We believe these new 2/1 GN models will prove to be popular, especially as they offer twice the capacity of the more common 1/1GN steamers but at a similar price level.”
Priced at £3,190 for the gas powered OG7502 and £2,990 for the electric OE7503, they are an ideal choice where large output is needed in a short space of time. They are the first in a series of new products which Lincat plans to aim primarily at the public sector.

Opus 700 is Lincat’s range of 700mm heavy duty deep prime cooking equipment. Following extensive and rigorous product trials these are now being specified and used by many national accounts including: Punch Taverns, the Spirit Group, Greene King and Sainsbury’s throughout the country. Powerful and reliable, Opus 700 comprises over 50 pieces including: gas and electric fryers, oven ranges, boiling tops, salamander grills, griddles and atmospheric steamers. It also includes gas chargrills and electric pasta boilers, a chip scuttle and bain marie.

The appointment, which became effective from 1 January 2008, reflects the company’s continued commitment to manufacturing here in the UK.

“Drew’s promotion to Production Director makes an important structural change in our company and ensures a more balanced functional responsibility. It also reflects the importance of manufacturing operations to our business, given their complexity and the growing challenges of global competitiveness”, said Steve Mitchell, Managing Director of Lincat Ltd. “And of course it rightly recognises the responsibility of the role and the contribution Drew has made during his tenure as Production Manager."

Drew Elsigood joined Lincat in 1994 as a Materials Controller, with over 15 years’ experience of manufacturing production gained from working in Lincoln’s cast metal industries.
Lincat’s product range extends to over 450 different products, including equipment for cooking, holding and display. The company operates from its 100,000 sq. ft. (10,000m2) facility in North Hykeham, Lincoln, where it has invested heavily in a wide range of advanced manufacturing technologies such as robotic welding and computerised panel bending.

Altogether Lincat Ltd is part of the Lincat Group of companies. Sister companies IMC Ltd and Britannia Kitchen Ventilation Ltd operate in the commercial catering equipment sector. Lincat Group company Mercury Appliances Ltd designs and manufactures domestic cooking appliances.

Lincat to unveil automatic water boiler with built-in filtration at Hotelympia 2008 Stand No: N2131

Lincat will unveil the prototype of its new range of Automatic ‘Filter Flow’ Water Boilers, with built-in filtration, at Hotelympia 2008, Stand No: N2131. Due to be launched in summer 2008, these will be the first automatic water boilers, from any manufacturer, to feature convenient and cost effective built-in water filtration. The new range will also feature onboard diagnostics and an LCD panel to keep the user fully informed of the status of the boiler.

“A water filter is recommended with all water boilers to reduce scale build-up and improve the taste and quality of beverages”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing & Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “With conventional boilers, it is necessary to plumb a separate filter upstream of the boiler. This is unattractive and adds costs. Eliminating the need for a separate filtration unit, our new “FilterFlow” system will ensure that water is always, automatically, of the highest quality. We believe that this development will set the trend for future water boiler design. ”

He continued…

“We shall also incorporate comprehensive onboard diagnostics with an easy to read LCD panel. This will show the operational status of the boiler and will also remind users when to order a new filter and when exactly to change it. Whilst other manufacturers generally charge a premium for such features, we intend to offer them at no extra cost in the standard unit”

There will be four new models in the range, the EB3F, EB4F, EB6F and EB6FT. They will replace Lincat’s existing range of water boilers and it is expected that the new, improved boilers will be offered at a similar price to the boilers they replace.

In addition to the new water boilers, Hotelympia will see the launch of Lincat’s new ranges of atmospheric steamers; fryers with built-in filtration; and convection ovens. Visitors will also be able to see products from Lincat’s established ranges including light, medium and heavy duty cooking equipment from the Lynx 400, Silverlink 600 and Opus 700 ranges; high performance Opus Combi Steamers; the Seal range of food display merchandisers and Panther hot cupboards.
Lincat to launch Opus 700 filtration fryers

Lincat, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment, has added two powerful new fryers, with built-in oil filtration, to its heavy duty Opus 700 range of prime cooking equipment.

The new fryers, which are designed to save money by extending the life of cooking oil, will be launched at Hotelympia 2008, stand no: N2131.

Capable of extending the life of cooking oil by up to 50%, the new filtration fryers are variants of the popular Opus 700 electric models - the 22 kW OE7108 and the 2x12 kW OE7113. Offering exceptional output, reliability and rapid recovery, they are priced at £3845 for the OE7108/F single tank and £3965 for the OE7113/F twin tank model.

Simple to operate, the new filtration system drains the oil from the tank through the primary filter to remove the largest particles and cooking debris. At the push of a button, the oil is then pumped through a premium carbon pad filter which can remove particles as fine as 0.5 microns (0.0005mm), before being pumped back into the tank ready for use. The whole process takes between four and six minutes for a full tank of oil.

“Cooking oil lasts longer if it is filtered on a daily basis”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing and Export Director of Lincat Ltd. “However if done manually this can be an unpleasant and even hazardous operation. Potential risks arise from the manual handling of oil, including lifting injuries, burning and slipping. Our new Opus 700 fryers, with built in oil filtration, tackle these problems head on.”

He continued…

“The filtration system is supremely easy to use and, in terms of savings on oil, can pay for itself in as little as ten months. But these fryers don’t just save money – they produce better tasting, healthier food thanks to their well filtered oil. We therefore believe our new filtration fryers will prove to be popular additions to the Opus 700 range.”

Altogether there are ten fryers in the Opus 700 range. The electric models feature hinged ‘lift-and-park’ elements and the gas models are externally fired. Both of these designs allow unobstructed access to the fryer tanks for ease of cleaning. The tanks have inclined bases and large bore drain valves to aid draining. As with all products in the Lincat Opus 700 range, the new fryers are supplied with a two-year parts and labour warranty as standard.

Overall there are more than 450 products in the Lincat range including: fryers, griddles, grills, ovens and combi steamers as well as beverage equipment, hot cupboards, trolleys and food display merchandisers. Excellent customer service is provided through Lincat’s extensive national and international dealer network.
